Grand Lake Health System is proud to recognize Chris Barfield, RN, of Urgent Care/Med Surg, as the latest recipient of the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses—an international recognition honoring nurses who go above and beyond in delivering compassionate, high-quality care.
Chris was nominated by a patient’s family following a visit to Joint Township District Memorial Hospital’s Urgent Care. During an especially busy day in both Urgent Care and the Emergency Department, Chris stood out for his clinical expertise, calm demeanor, and genuine compassion.
From the moment he greeted the patient and her young son, Chris created an environment of comfort and trust. He took the time to listen, engage, and ensure they felt cared for despite the fast-paced setting. When the child was diagnosed with RSV, Chris provided not only skilled medical care but also reassurance and empathy during an emotional moment, reminding the mother she had done everything right.
The nomination highlighted Chris’s ability to connect on a personal level, anticipate questions, and provide clear, thoughtful communication. His actions helped turn a stressful experience into one of confidence and support.
Chris’s dedication to patient- and family-centered care reflects the true spirit of the DAISY Award and the mission of Grand Lake Health System. Please join us in congratulating him on this well-deserved honor.
